Funding of electromobility in Italy

Landkarte Italien
Until 2019, electromobility played a subordinate role in Italian politics, but this has changed since Italy released an eco bonus programme, which aims to cut net emissions to zero until 2050. A big part of the project is the replacement of gasoline or diesel cars by electric ones by 2035.

Funding options

For the purchase or lease of a new electric car, subsidies up to 6.000 Euros are available. This funding option is available for private and company customers. Also, plug-in-hybrids and other hybrids are partly subsidised up to 3.500 Euros. Good news: If a customer scraps his older Euro 1, 2, 3 or 4 emission standard car, this bonus can be even higher. Between 6.500 and 10.000 Euros per car is possible. The sum will be deducted from the dealer’s price.

Tax reduction

Electric drivers are exempted from the annual ownership taxes for five years. After this period, they still benefit from a 75 % tax reduction.

Eco-tax

The reverse method of funding electric cars is to put extra taxes on non-electric ones. Until December 2021 customers have to pay a penalty for choosing non-eco-friendly models.

Local funding options

Many Italian cities offer local discounts, for example free parking or free circulation in ZTL zones. Our advice is to research on your communities’ website.

Charging benefits

Private individuals, companies and municipalities can benefit from another tax relief. They can claim a new tax deduction of 50 % on a total amount of 3.000 Euros max., spread over ten equal annual instalments for the purchase and installation costs of e-chargers until December 31st, 2021.
