Funding of electromobility in Belgium

Landkarte Österreich

The Belgian market share of electric cars is constantly growing since 2014. In 2020, the overall share was little less than 10 %. The goal is to push this number over the next years, because new measures were launched in order to ban non-eco-friendly cars. Many incentives ease the customer’s decision.

Tax benefits on charging

Every company benefits from huge tax savings. 13.5 % of the investments in charging infrastructure will be deducted. As a result, 14.375 Euro can be saved. But also private customers benefit: 75 % of their charging costs can be reduced from their income tax. In the capital Brussels, even the tax of up to 75 Euro on office parking spaces for companies will be dropped, if chargers are installed.

Company tax benefit

Good news: Company expense tax is 100 % deductible for electric vehicles that emit less than 42 g CO2/km.

Regional tax benefits

When it comes to taxation incentives the country is divided into two parts: Flanders and Wallonia, including Brussels. Both regions offer different reductions and incentives. We will explain them to you.

Flanders

In Flanders electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids are exempt from the registration tax. Moreover, drivers with electric cars that emit less than 50g CO2/km do not need to pay ownership tax.

Brussels and Wallonia

The registration tax for electric vehicles is much cheaper. Owners only pay the minimum rate of 61.40 Euro. In addition, owning an electric cars leads to a low rate of annual ownership tax. Instead of 1.900 Euro, owners only pay 83.56 Euro.
